Ashley Higgins

Ashley Higgins is a successful educator & performer. He began his career studying brass and woodwind instruments at school but quickly realized that his interest was in the ‘driver’s seat’ of a band. Then the devotion to the art of drumming began. By the time he was 14 he was working professionally with many bands and artists.

He is a graduate of the Queensland University of Technology holding a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz & Popular music, majoring on Drumkit & Percussion, as well as a Graduate Diploma of Education. It was during this time that he began his career as an in-demand drummer and educator in Queensland.

Ashley has been a Music Educator with Education QLD for over 14 years working at some of Brisbane’s major high schools directing concert bands, orchestras, big bands & percussion ensembles. He has conducted workshops and professional development sessions for teachers and students and more recently mentored the percussion and rhythm section students in the “Creative Generations” Big Band and Orchestra.
Ashley was a member of the “HIP HOP HORNS” – one of Australia’s most successful corporate acts – for 6 years and this experience launched him as a freelance player performing many corporate, club and festival shows with artist’s and bands such as:

Andy Firth, Doug Parkinson, Melinda Schneider, Tom Sharah, Paulini, Jack Vidgen, Mirusia, Rhonda Burchmore, Simon Gallaher, Julie Anthony, Kevin Hocking, Rob Guest, SavVy, The Oz Hornz, Miss Mandy Swings, The Fabulous Blues Boys, Creative Generations State Schools Onstage (Channel 10), The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols (Channel 7, 9 & 10), Planet Funk, Vegas Please, Odyssey, Zion, Lush, Swing Central, Radio Club Band, The Allan Brown Big Band, The Brisbane Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, Queensland Pops Orchestra, Warner Bros. Movie World Band, Robert Clarke, Jane Michelle and Ceri McCoy.The Rat Packs Back, Tap Dogs, Bang (Ultimate Drummers Weekend 2003), Vanessa Amorosi, Marcia Hines, Troy Casser-Daly, Lee Kernaghan, Kate Cebrano, Christine Anu & Grace Night.

He has performed with Opera Australia for the production of “The Pirates of Penzance” and held the “dep” chair for “Jersey Boys” which saw him playing several of the shows in 2012.  Ashley has played on recordings for Jal Joshua (Runner-up Australia’s Got Talent 2009), Miss Mandy Swings, Jelly Kids, Savvy and other on call sessions for various artists.
