Presented by Dr Nathan Daughtrey from USA, this two-hour workshop will take a look at the criteria we should consider as educators that will simultaneously enhance students’ technique and musicianship, excite and motivate them to learn more, keep things fresh and interesting for you the director, and engage and educate your audiences. Logical sequences of repertoire for solo and ensemble playing will be demonstrated through live performance, audio and video examples, and full audience participation. You will walk away refreshed with some new ideas and perspectives on percussion repertoire and pedagogy.
Percussionist, composer and educator, Nathan Daughtrey (b. 1975) is a musical chameleon who uses his wide-ranging talents to adapt comfortably to a variety of environments. As a performing artist and clinician for Yamaha percussion, Vic Firth sticks & mallets, Zildjian cymbals, and Black Swamp accessories, he has performed and given masterclasses and clinics throughout the United States and across three continents.
With publications for percussion ensemble, concert band, orchestra, chamber ensembles, and soloists as well as an ever-growing number of commissions. Nathan’s compositions appear regularly on performances at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, as well as in concert halls and other performance venues around the world.
