Lachlan Hawkins - Drums

Recipient of the SJ Bromley Jazz Award and Magnetic Island Jazz Festival Young Performers Award, Lachlan Hawkins is a drummer, percussionist and composer currently finishing his studies at the Queensland Conservatorium. A member of the Conservatorium’s flagship jazz orchestra, the Con Artists, Lachlan has also extensively performed around Australia in a variety of settings, ranging from jazz trios to corporate bands to symphony orchestras.

In 2014, Lachlan was selected as one of six finalists for the James Morrison Scholarship in Mount Gambier. His most rewarding experiences to date include touring Asia and Europe with the Queensland Youth Symphony, participating in the Juilliard Winter Jazz School as well as sharing the stage with artists including James Morrison, The Idea or North, Elly Hoyt, John Hoffman, The View from Madeleine’s Couch, Swing Central and Melissa Western.

Lachlan has been running a private teaching studio since graduating from Brisbane State High School in 2011, and is passionate about passing his knowledge on to others. Along with classmate Tsoof Baras, Lachlan currently presents body percussion workshops to schools. Together, having been inspired by groups such as STOMP and the Blue Man Group, they are currently working on a series of compositions that combine music with visual and theatrical elements. Lachlan has been fortunate to study with Carl Allen, David Jones, Marcio Bahia, John Parker, Paul Hudson and Grant Collins.
